Union City doesn’t do food halfway, and this lineup proves it. You can hit Sheng Kee for a five-minute milk tea run, then linger over chashu ramen at Ramen Shu that warms you to the bone.

I’ve eaten my way from the ube truffles at Cafe 86 to the pan dulce at Bakery La Mejor, and both are worth every carb. But not every stop shines—Jolly Roger Land had me walking out faster than I walked in.

The range runs from bakery counters to sit-down meals, with a couple of duds in between. Start with the winners and skip the rest.

I walked into Home Eat汉家宴 and felt like I'd found a friend. That robot bringing my food? Absolutely charming. It rolls up with a cheerful beep, and suddenly dinner feels like a little party. The fried rice and chicken wings are the real stars here, honestly. They arrive hot, savory, and dangerously easy to keep eating. Prices are friendly, too. Come late, and the cold dish discounts make the whole thing even sweeter. Service is easy whether you flag down a waiter or just call ahead. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit. No fuss, just great food at a great price.

Worth the price for the quality

Doughweime Bakery & Café is the kind of place that keeps you guessing in the best way. I grabbed an ube malasada, then a black sesame one, because why choose? The dough is soft, pillowy, and the cream inside is light as air. Mini malasadas mean I can sample three flavors without shame. Every visit surprises me, sometimes with a new seasonal treat, sometimes with an old favorite done just right. Is it a little pricey? Sure. But then you taste that fresh, delicate sweetness and you forget the cost entirely. This bakery rewards curiosity. Bring a friend, share everything, and thank me later.

Manila Good-Ha knows how to treat a hungry person right. I pulled up for carside pickup, and Efrin, the manager, had my order ready before I even turned off the engine. That kind of service sticks with you. The food itself? A generous spread of flavors, from savory mains to comforting sides. Portions are huge, so come hungry or plan for leftovers. The staff are genuinely helpful, always smiling, always quick. I left feeling like a regular, even on my first visit. If you want reliable, tasty Filipino food without the hassle, this is your spot. Highlights
Ube truffle is a favorite
All treats are delicious
Pandan matcha and calamansi drinks
Ube poptart and crumble cookie

Cafe 86 is dangerous, and I mean that as the highest compliment. The ube truffle? I dream about it. It's rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. But don't stop there. The pandan matcha drink is a refreshing twist, and the calamansi one wakes up your taste buds in the best way. Their ube poptart is pure nostalgia, flaky and filled with that signature purple goodness. The crumble cookie? Crunchy, buttery, impossible to put down. Honestly, everything here is delicious. I've yet to order something I didn't love. If you're new, start with the ube truffle. Then branch out. You won't regret it.

Saturday: 10 AM–9 PM
Highlights
Inconsistent quality since ownership change
Fresh seafood not guaranteed
Slow service on busy Sundays
Tasty camarones a la plancha
Watch for spicy churro surprises

Los Mariscos Sinaloenses breaks my heart a little. I used to love this place, but since the ownership changed, things feel off. The camarones a la plancha were tasty, yes, but I couldn't shake that worry about freshness. Seafood needs to be perfect, and it wasn't always. On a busy Sunday, the service crawled. I waited longer than I'd like, then longer still. And watch out for the churros. One bite had a spicy kick that caught me completely off guard. Not bad, just surprising. So here's my honest take: the flavor is still there sometimes, but the consistency isn't. Come on a quiet day, order the shrimp, and keep your expectations flexible.

SK Donuts is open 24 hours, which means it's saved me more times than I can count. The donuts are fresh, soft, and genuinely delicious. I grabbed a glazed one at 11 PM once, and it tasted like it was made that morning. Their croissant sandwiches are a whole other win, flaky and stuffed with good stuff. Coffee's solid, and the bagels hold up, too. The staff are friendly, even at odd hours, which I appreciate more than they know. There's something comforting about knowing you can always get a good pastry here. Whether it's 7 AM or 3 AM, SK Donuts delivers. I'll keep coming back, and you should too.

Consistent, reliable Japanese lunch spot
Pork chashu rice bowls shine
Spicy ramen with real heat
Friendly, prompt service throughout
Worth the parking hassle

Ramen Shu is my reliable lunch buddy. The pork chashu rice bowl? That's the dish I keep thinking about. Tender pork, seasoned rice, all working in perfect harmony. Their spicy ramen has real heat, not that fake burn some places offer. It warms you up properly. Service is fast and friendly, even when the place gets busy. The only downside is parking. It's a genuine hassle, and I've circled the block more than once. But the moment that broth hits my spoon, I forget the frustration. This is a consistent, dependable spot for Japanese comfort food. If you can find a spot, you're in for a treat.

Sweet, memorable desserts

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar lives up to its name in the coziest way. I brought my pup along, and the pet-friendly menu made both of us happy. The staff greeted us warmly and kept the service fast and friendly. Seasonal pasta arrived fresh and comforting, and the fries were dangerously good, crispy and salty. But the desserts? Those stole the show. Sweet, memorable, and just the right size to share. The big group tables feel welcoming, too, like you could bring the whole family and still feel relaxed. I left with a full belly and a happy dog. That's a win in my book.

Play structures are nice but the facility itself is poorly maintained.
Exposed cables and electrical plugs on the floor are a serious danger.
Toys are broken and look like they came from a yard sale.
Snack and drink machines are empty and overpriced.
Staff changed closing time without notice, turning a 1-hour drive into a wasted trip.

I wanted to love Jolly Roger Land, but it just didn't work out. The play structures look fun, sure. Then you notice the exposed cables and electrical plugs sitting right on the floor. That's not okay, especially with kids running around. The toys are broken and tired, like they came from someone's garage sale. The snack machines? Empty and overpriced, which feels like a double insult. On top of that, the staff changed closing time without telling anyone. I drove an hour to get there, and we turned right back around. That wasted trip still stings. I hope they fix the safety issues soon, but I can't recommend this place right now.

Bakery La Mejor is the heart of this town, I swear. The pastries are authentic Mexican baking at its finest, always fresh, always warm. I grabbed a pan dulce and felt like I'd been transported to my abuela's kitchen. Their tres leches cake? Beyond compare. It's soaked just right, creamy, and utterly unforgettable. The people behind the counter treat you like family, with a kindness that rivals the baking itself. This place has been a local staple for years, and I understand why. It's not just food. It's home. If you haven't been, fix that soon. Your taste buds will thank you.

Sheng Kee Bakery #10 is all about speed and quality. I walked in, grabbed a few pastries, and paid in under five minutes. The self-service setup is perfect for quick stops. Everything I picked was fresh and consistently good, which is exactly what I want from a bakery. Their milk tea service is quick, too, no long lines or waiting around. It's not a sit-down experience, but that's not the point. The point is getting great food fast, and they nail it. I've been here multiple times, and I've never been let down. For a grab-and-go fix, this is my spot in Union City.

Moving in felt stress-free, which is rare and wonderful. Every inquiry got a clear, straightforward answer, no runaround, no vague promises.
